What does Best in Building Health mean to you?
I think it means striving for continual improvement of each asset and its impact on the community around it. I previously spent over 20 years focusing on health and safety at work and it's a logical progression to extend this to health and well-being in residential and commercial buildings by way of Fitwel Certification. For me, it's a perfect fit and one that I’m focused on and highly motivated to achieve.

How does Fitwel align with DLC Europe’s mission?
A fundamental part of DLC Europe services is to support Investors and Developers in achieving their ESG goals and initiatives. This includes achieving Fitwel Certifications for a wide range of assets across the European region. This is considered a critical component in ensuring those homes and workplaces provide the best environment for living and working.

Moving forward, we are working with our partners to ensure that new investment funds meet the criteria of Article 8 of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulations (SFDR).* This includes, amongst others, ensuring that Social (S) aspects are addressed and will be achieved by obtaining Fitwel Certification for the significant majority of assets.

*From Greenbiz: SFDR addresses the need for harmonized reporting standards that apply across the EU. It aims to ensure that sustainability risks are integrated; adverse impacts are considered; and environmental or social characteristics are accurately presented in a transparent, comparable way. Article 8 funds are funds or financial products that promote environmental or social characteristics and are tied to companies that follow good governance practices. They are also known as "light green funds."

Why did you choose to become a Fitwel Ambassador?
DLC Europe supports businesses and corporations in meeting their ESG objectives and achieving long-term value by incorporating Fitwel Certification across their portfolios. A key requirement of my role was to become a Fitwel Ambassador, and I was introduced to Fitwel by my company’s owner, David Lawrence. Looking back on my varied and extensive career, I can honestly say that being a Fitwel Ambassador has been one of the most personally and professionally rewarding aspects.

What do you most value in being an Ambassador?
Working with like-minded partners and globally leading residential and commercial real estate companies has provided immense satisfaction and pride, as well as the opportunity to keep learning and improving and having a tangible sense of achievement. As a Fitwel Ambassador, I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago earlier this year to work with the Harrison Street team on Senior Living assets seeking Fitwel Certification. Given my love of traveling to new places, on top of my passion for my work, this was an unexpected bonus!
