Scarlett White of RE Tech Advisors: Ambassador of the Year for Leading Healthy Building Certifications

As part of our ongoing Best in Building Health spotlights, we’re excited to celebrate one of our Ambassadors of the Year, Scarlett White of Fitwel Partner RE Tech Advisors!

AT A GLANCE

Scarlett White, Project Manager, RE Tech Advisors (formerly LORD Green Strategies)

Name: Scarlett White

Role: Project Manager, RE Tech Advisors (formerly LORD Green Strategies)

Location: Denver, CO

Ambassador Since: Since 2022

This year’s Ambassador of the Year award for leading the most healthy building certifications is Scarlett White of RE Tech Advisors, one of Fitwel’s Partners. With an impressive track record, Scarlett has successfully certified over 20 properties, working closely with esteemed clients such as Lionstone and UBS who are also recognized as Best in Building Health winners. These clients as well as thousands of occupants and people in surrounding communities have all benefited greatly from Scarlett's expertise and guidance as an Ambassador. We asked about her passion for her work, and how her passion has impacted her.

How did you start working in the healthy building space?
SW: While I’m grateful for the opportunities I had in my prior career, it was an unhealthy industry and to reset we moved across the world, to Thailand, where my interest in sustainability was sparked. After returning to the states, I enrolled in one of the country’s few environmental sociology programs because I was deeply curious about the relationship between people and the natural and built environments. From there, I joined Lord Green Strategies to spearhead their wellness certifications. Fitwel was an integral offering for our clients.

How has becoming a Fitwel Ambassador impacted you?
SW: I’ve come to regularly consider Fitwel strategies and their impacts on my personal life. I look around – at my home office or when considering where to live – and think about how the health-promoting approaches are implemented. This helps increase the impact of my work beyond our projects.

What does Building Health mean to you?
SW: Building Health for All means investing in programs like Fitwel because it benefits more than those directly tied to the certification. Many more people outside of the project get to benefit from healthy buildings.

What Fitwel project or moment has been the most memorable for you?
SW: I’m proud of every project. This year’s highlights include China Basin becoming the first Fitwel-certified and non-LEED-certified building to be featured as a tour stop for Greenbuild. Another project, 73 East Lake, won the Best in Building Health award for the Highest Scoring Multi-family Project this year. But the ones I’m the most proud of are the ones that barely got certified, and we had to implement every possible strategy because they were the ones where the most impact was made.

Are people-centric strategies and ESG a competitive advantage?
SW: It's beyond a competitive advantage now. People-centric strategies are becoming the norm, and real estate must meet this demand to mitigate risk and provide benefits at all levels. It reduces tenant liability and improves performance. It's about giving our clients' tenants a healthy and safe place to live and work, not just improving sustainability performance.
