AT A GLANCE

Madison Dorman, Associate Director of Certifications, Verdani Partners

Name: Madison Dorman

Role: Associate Director of Certifications, Verdani Partners

Location: Carlsbad, CA

Ambassador Since: July 2019

Top Ambassador Madison Dorman of Verdani Partners was recognized for her dedication to helping clients pursue healthy building certification through Fitwel this year. Madison learned of Fitwel’s Ambassador Program when she was applying for a sustainability role with Verdani Partners as having this credential was a desired qualification. Having secured a 2-Star Rating for her first project — an office building spanning over one million square feet — she’s gone on to certify several projects and even supported the achievement of Best in Building Health awards for clients, including the Highest Scoring Mulit-Tenant Base Building Built Certification in 2021 for PGIM – Regions Plaza and the Highest Scoring Multi-Tenant Base Building v2.1 for 18 Tremont this year. Read on to learn more about her impressive achievements and motivations.

What does Best in Building Health mean to you?
MD: Best in Building Health represents a commitment to creating healthy, sustainable spaces that prioritize people’s health and well-being. It acknowledges the importance of people and the built environment in shaping our health outcomes, as well as the importance of using buildings to promote a healthier and more equitable society. This award serves as an inspiration for building owners, developers, and property managers to do just that.

How does Fitwel align with Verdani Partners’ mission?
MD: Verdani is aligned with Fitwel's vision of Building Health for All through our mission to accelerate sustainability in the built environment. Our people-first approach gives clients solutions and strategies to prioritize health and wellness at their properties, including access to healthy food options, daylighting and thermal comfort, as well as amenities for exercise. We also share Fitwel's objective of scaling sustainable and wellness solutions in the built environment to amplify the positive impact and enhance well-being for all communities and people. We do this through our partnerships and leadership throughout the commercial real estate industry to drive the adoption of these strategies.

Why did you choose to become a Fitwel Ambassador?
MD: I first heard about the Fitwel Ambassador program when I was applying for green building consulting roles, many of which required or preferred the Fitwel Ambassador professional accreditation. I’ve always valued the importance of working and living in healthy indoor environments, so once I heard about Fitwel while searching for a career, I immediately knew there’d be a fit. Taking the Fitwel Ambassador course gave me the knowledge and skills that differentiated me from other candidates.

What in particular do you value most about being an Ambassador?
MD: Through leading several Fitwel certifications, I’ve had one-on-one interactions with Fitwel team members to provide the best solutions for our clients and help them reach their ESG goals. I have also worked on a variety of projects and now have enough experience to walk into or look at a building and know which strategies will be the best for pursuing Fitwel.

What sets Fitwel apart?
MD: Given the challenge of working with various office properties where the majority have minimal owner control, we appreciate working with Fitwel and implementing the flexible scorecards. Our clients have always seemed pleased with the results and with the positive feedback of the certification from their occupants.
