We were thrilled to recognize two Top Ambassadors from Fitwel Champion UL Solutions, Christopher Tacy and David Adler, as part of our Best in Building Health awards in 2023. Through Fitwel, they’ve helped many clients realize the value of obtaining Fitwel Certification, and attribute much of their success to becoming Fitwel Ambassadors.

What does Best in Building Health mean to you?
Christopher: It means exactly what it sounds like: companies exemplifying best practices within the built environment. To be more specific, it highlights the projects and companies focusing on the health and wellness of the people within buildings as their priority.
David: It’s about trying to go above and beyond a client's healthy building goals and expectations. Being able to have a client see the value and importance of adopting a Fitwel strategy that wasn't in place before is a crucial and extremely gratifying part.

How does Fitwel align with UL Solutions’ mission?
David: The mission of UL Solutions is to make the world a safer place. One of our guiding principles is to promote safe, secure, and sustainable living and working environments for people through the use of science, hazard-based safety engineering, and data acumen. Every day, we work to put our mission and principles into action. With the help of Fitwel, we can quantify our mission and principles, show measurable results, and benefit building users globally.

Why did you choose to become a Fitwel Ambassador?
Christopher: I first heard about the Ambassador program in early 2018. It was described to me as a new health and wellness certification for the built environment, and clients were interested in finding out more about it. Becoming a Fitwel Ambassador was an important designation to obtain to show my clients that I understood the program and could help them reach their certification goals.

David: I heard about Fitwel and the Ambassador Program while working for my local USGBC chapter prior to joining UL Solutions. As I began to work on more Fitwel projects at UL Solutions, I knew I needed to further my expertise and show my clients I was well-versed in all things Fitwel with a professional credential.

What in particular do you value most about being an Ambassador?
Christopher: It has provided an added value in my everyday life as I spend time working and living in buildings. The knowledge I obtained through the program has allowed me to appreciate the innovations within buildings that others may not notice, or simply take for granted. As for my career, this program has been an excellent addition to my professional development and has become an important designation in the industry.

David: I have been able to confidently guide project teams to achieve the best possible results for their assets. It's been quite rewarding to see clients, owners, designers, and building operators embrace more stringent healthy building measures through Fitwel.
